Sea Box starts TACOM prototype production

 

East Riverton, NJ (February 8th 2005) -- Following the successful bid last year by Sea Box, Inc, of East Riverton, NJ, to supply the US Department of Defence with 138,000 containers over the next five years, production work is now under way on an initial order to deliver 15 prototype units. The 15 prototypes, scheduled for delivery by early March, include one type of Quadcon, two types of Tricons and five configurations of 20ft ISO shipping containers.

This initial $314,000 order represents the first part of the $431 million contract awarded in November 2004 to Sea Box by TACOM - the US Army Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command, of Warren, Mich. The containers will be constructed in and will be fitted with some components; delivery is scheduled for completion by 18 November 2009. Sea Box was the winner among six bids solicited via the Internet in March 2004.

Employing some 50 people, Sea Box was established in 1983 by Jim Brennan and specialises in new design modification and manufacture of ISO containers for commercial and military applications. With annual sales of $21.5 million in 2004, the company will now increases its turnover to more than $90 million per year. ?Winning this contract cements Sea Box?s position as North America?s premiere supplier of highly specialised, and strategic, intermodal transportation equipment,? notes Brennan.

Sea Box has two locations in New Jersey. The East Riverton six-acre facility is the home to the corporate office and recently completed state-of-the-art, 27,000 sq ft manufacturing plant with shot blast and paint room, and equipment storage yard. A South Plainfield facility, which comprises three acres, is a storage yard where refurbishing of containers takes place in addition to all container rental activity.

Sea Box manufactures and custom modifies all types of ISO cargo containers and flatracks.
